The Beginning
Maine was a rather quiet place to live, especially during the winter months. No theaters, no pizza shop... only a roller rink that was open on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The summer, on the other hand, was very busy. The population would swell with the influx of tourist and summer residents.
Old Orchard Beach is a seven mile stretch of natural sand and is the only beach on the Maine coastline. This makes it particularly attractive to people north of us, think Quebec and Montreal.
As a kid, we had to create our own 'fun' and excitement. Our family didn't own a phone, a car nor a television. Not until I was in my teens were we able to sit in our own home and watch tv.
I'll use the next several posts to describe our lives and how we managed to survive.
